OSHAWA, Ont. – Although it was not the final result they wanted, the Durham College men's soccer team earned their first point of the season as they played Fleming to a 2-2 draw Thursday night.
2014 leading scorer
Sasa Vukoje (Etobicoke, Ont.) put the Lords on top 2-1 with his second goal at the 60-minute mark. However, Fleming roared back as Josh Penello beat goalkeeper
Jonathan Codrington (Courtice, Ont.) on a scramble in front of the net to level the score.
The teams traded scoring chances down the stretch but could not find the back of the net to break the deadlock. As injury time approached,
Ivan Nimtsiv (Courtice, Ont.) found himself wide open in front of the net, but the play was waved offside as the Fleming defender was beside the goalkeeper and out of the lineman's sight.
Vukoje's pair of goals were as good as it gets. His first was a blast from 25-yards out as he rang it off the crossbar and into the net. His second goal came off a set play where he redirected a free kick past a sprawling goalkeeper.
Durham (0-1-1) will have a short turnaround for their next game that comes on Saturday afternoon against the Centennial Colts (0-2-0) in Scarborough. Kick-off is at 3 p.m.
