Women's volleyball open regular season with win over Mohawk

OAKVILLE, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins women's volleyball team (4-0, 1-0 OCAA) dropped the first set but rallied to win the next three, downing Mohawk 3-1 (18-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-14) in their OCAA league opener.

"We had a bit of first game jitters to start the match. We were making far too many mistakes, both in execution of skills and decision making," head coach Scott Hunt said. "We made some adjustments after the first set and the players that came in were able to make positive contributions right away. This is going to be one of our strengths this season as we have depth at every position. It was a true team win today."

The Bruins hit at a .462 clip, compared to .183 for Mohawk. Taylor Ley lead the attack with 17 points (11 kills, four aces, two blocks) while Rachel Abrahams (14 kills, two aces) and Amanda Manley (nine kills, one block) were both in double figures with 16 and 10 points respectively.

The Bruins will play their first road game Nov. 4 (1pm) when they travel to Redeemer.
