Men's volleyball drops heartbreaking five set match to Huskies

OSHAWA, Ont – When the smoke cleared at the CRWC on Thursday evening, it was the hearts of Lords fans that were broken as Durham's men's volleyball team dropped a five-set marathon to the George Brown Huskies.

The teams traded sets back-and-forth throughout the match before the Huskies forced a fifth and deciding frame. A nail-biter to the end, the scores were seldom separated by more than a one-point differential, neither team able to hold possession for long stretches. When the Huskies closed things out at 15-13, it remained nonetheless an inspired performance from the Lords who, despite their 1-7 record, are demonstrating consistent fight game in and game out.

The Lords are back at it on Sunday afternoon at the CRWC when they match up with the Canadore Panthers. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
  • Lords veteran Tyler Krabi (Stouffville, Ont.) crushed a single game career-high 18 kills on his way to setting a new career-high of 25 points, adding five blocks and two service aces to his offensive totals on the night.
James Hirt (Scarborough, Ont.) also set new career-highs in the five-setter, posting 16 points on eight kills, six blocks and two service aces.
• George Brown was led offensively by Perry Cumi who posted a team-high 19 points from 11 kills, seven blocks and one service ace.
  • The Durham offence ran through fourth-year setter Kyler Woodburne (Bowmanville, Ont.) who tied for the game-high with 30 assists.
Lucas Pichl (Cobourg, Ont.) was electric on defence for the Lords, saving the day on two dozen occasions with a game-high 24 digs.
• Pradeep Bhogal guided the assault for George Brown, racking up 30 assists, while Yuseph Jackman notched a team-high 19 digs.
