Lords clinch a home playoff berth with an OT win

Box Score SCARBOROUGH, Ont. – The Durham College women's basketball team defeated the Centennial Colts 72-63 in overtime to secure a home playoff game.

The OCAA championship qualifying game will take place on Sunday, February 25 3:30 p.m. in the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre. The Lords opponent will be determined with the conclusion of the regular season taking place on Wednesday night. Possible opponents include the St. Clair Saints, Sheridan Bruins and Redeemer Royals.

If the Lords face St. Clair they will look to get the monkey of their back as they have lost to the Saints in the qualifying game in three straight years and seven times since 2007.

This will mark the third straight year Durham will host a playoff game with a berth in the OCAA championship at Humber on the line.

On Tuesday, the Lords looked as if they had the game locked up leading by eight points in the fourth quarter but the Colts chipped away at the lead and finished the game on a 6-0 run to force overtime.

In the extra period, Durham's defence took over the game holding the Colts to just five points while scoring 15 to pick up the win.

Durham had a well-balanced offensive attack with four players reaching double-digits in scoring. Alyssa Navarro (Oshawa, Ont.) and Victoria Brody (Scarborough, Ont.) had 12 points apiece while Maddie Dender (Ajax, Ont.) and Dekota Kirby (Markham, Ont.) had ten points each. Kirby would finish the night with a double-double as she had a season-high 11 assists.

Also recording a season-high was Durham's Keisha Arthurworrey (Oshawa, Ont.) who had 13 rebounds, six of which were at the offensive end of the court.

Durham finishes the regular season with a 9-8 record as they head into the postseason on a three-game winning streak.
