OAKVILLE, Ont. - After a pair of narrow defeats in their last two outings, the Sheridan Bruins men's soccer team (5-3 OCAA) bounced back in emphatic fashion, scoring twice in the first 10 minutes on their way to a 6-0 triumph over Conestoga.
"We needed that," assistant coach Robert Stillo said. "I think after the last couple of games and having a week in between, we were hungry, and that showed today."
Francis Ameyaw opened the scoring in the eighth minute, breaking off the right wing, and slotting the keeper on the short side.
Two minutes later Mathew Santos had doubled the Bruin advantage, after his off balance attempt inside the area squeezed past the Conestoga keeper.
By halftime, the lead had swelled to 4-0, with Ameyaw completing his brace, and Reshaun Walkes also finding the back of the net.
Sheridan would add two more inside the first 15 minutes of the second half, both on brilliant headers.
First it was Kameron Crichlow, after the corner kick delivery from Santos, then it was Ivan Cutura - also with a back post cross from Santos - who got the off-balance header to go.
Goalkeeper Luis Mejia stopped a second half penalty and picked up his first clean sheet of the season.
The victory locks the Double-Blue into at least third place in the Central Division, with road games remaining against the two clubs - George Brown (Oct. 13) and Humber (Oct. 18) - just above them in the standings.
They can claim second place in the division, but would need to win both remaining games, and have George Brown drop points in one of their other two remaining contests.
