Lords sweep Sting to move into first place

NORTH YORK, Ont. – With the OCAA women's softball season winding down the Durham College women's softball team has moved into first place.
 
Up against the Seneca Sting on Thursday night, the Lords won the opening game 11-3 before taking the second half of the doubleheader 13-1 in five innings.
 
Ashley Black (Waterloo, Ont.) earned the victory in the complete game outing. She allowed two earned runs on four hits, while striking out four batters.
 
At the plate Sabrina Stalteri (Vaughan, Ont.) led the Lords, going 1-for-4 with a double and four RBI. Melissa McKnight (Brampton, Ont.) also had a great night at the plate going 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBI.
 
Brianna Bader took the loss for Seneca. Over seven innings she allowed eight earned runs on 14 hits and three walks.
 
Emily Glendinning (Plattsville, Ont.) returned to the mound for Durham and earned the victory over five innings of work for Durham. She struck out nine Sting batters and allowed one run on five hits.
 
The Lords offence was spread out in the victory. Nicole Mancini (Scarborough, Ont.) went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, with two runs and a walk, to lead the offence. Jaimie Clarke (Elmvale, Ont.) was 2-for-3 with three RBI, a double and a triple. Stalteri had another great game at the plate, finishing 1-for-2 with two walks, two RBI and three runs.
 
Amanda Van de Graaf was the losing pitcher in the game, going 1.1 innings. She allowed 12 earned runs on 10 hits and four walks.
 
This doubleheader leads into the Lords final conference home game before the Canadian Collegiate Softball Association (CCSA) national championship next weekend in Ottawa. They host the Conestoga Condors on Tuesday night at Durham Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
