OSHAWA, Ont. – Early on it wasn't obvious a large victory was coming, but the Seneca Sting gradually built their way to a decisive 85-69 victory over the Durham College men's basketball team on Tuesday night.
The second quarter was the Lords worst of the night, being outscored 20-13 after only trailing by four after the opening quarter.
Seneca only outscored Durham College by two and three respectively in the final two quarters, but the lead was never the Lords after the 1:36 mark of the opening 10 minutes.
What it came down to was that it was a game of opportunity. Seneca scored 22 points off turnovers to Durham's 11, while they also outscored the Lords 40-22 in the paint despite being outrebounded. When they had an opportunity, they took advantage of it.
Durham now sits four points up on Centennial for third in the OCAA east division and trail the second-place George Brown Huskies by six points. The Lords have three games remaining as they travel to North Bay this Saturday to face the Canadore Panthers before games against La Cité and Algonquin at home the following weekend to wrap up conference play.
•
Dondre Huggins (Scarborough, Ont.) finished the night as the Lords leading scorer with 21 points in 35 minutes, while the Lords leading scorer
Brandon Halliburton (Brampton, Ont.) finished with 18 points and eight rebounds – two short of a double-double.
• Four Sting players were in double-digit scoring, led by Isaiah Ankra's 19 points. Daniel Wright, Isse Ibrahim and Jordan Anderson finished with 17, 14 and 14 respectively.
•
Craig Hanson (Ajax, Ont.) had a game-high 11 rebounds for the Lords.
• No player neared Hanson's total besides Isse Ibrahim of the Sting and Halliburton, who each had eight boards.
Overall Record: 15-9
Conference Record: 11-6
Next conference game: Saturday, Feb. 9 @ Canadore Panthers • 1 p.m. - North Bay, Ont.
