Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Durham College Sports Information

Durham earns their second straight sweep

OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College women's volleyball team kept pace with the top teams in the OCAA east region with a 3-0 sweep over the George Brown Huskies on Tuesday night.

With the victory, the Lords improve to 6-2, a game back of the Loyalist Lancers and Algonquin Thunder who both beat Durham earlier in the semester.

Set scores were 25-14, 25-12 and 25-18 as Durham cruised to their second straight 3-0 win.

Defence played a big role in the Lords' victory as George Brown would only convert on 15 of their 79 attacks while Durham racked up 44 digs. Devyn Fraser (Uxbridge, Ont.) led the Lords on the defensive end with 10 digs.

On the offensive side of the court, setters Megan Romain (Ajax, Ont.) and Erinn Marshall (Orillia, Ont.) did a good job of distributing the ball as nine players had at least one kill. The Lords have featured a balanced attack the entire season with no player being in the top 25 in scoring.

Jessica Joensen (Pickering, Ont.) converted on seven of 15 attacks while Althea Boncheff (Alliston, Ont.) had six kills on 17 attacks. The Lords also added nine aces to their totals.

Audrey Chau and Julia Vit paced the Huskies' offence with five kills apiece.

Durham will have no time to rest as they host the Centennial Colts on home court on Thursday, November 30 in their final game of 2017. Centennial enters the match with a 4-3 record having won three of their last four matches. First serve is at 6 p.m. at the CRWC.

As part of the annual holiday food drive on campus, at each Durham College home game, the student-athletes are asking for spectators to bring along a non-perishable food item or items to help support those less fortunate. Those who bring in a donation will receive a free bag of popcorn.

The holiday food drive provides hampers of food to families of students in need, helping make the holidays a little happier.
