Lapointe's hat-trick guides Lords to first home win of the season

OSHAWA, Ont - Cory Lapointe's (Whitby, Ont.) hat-trick led the Lords to their first home win of the season defeating the visiting Fleming Knights 4-1 on a chilly Tuesday night at Vaso's Field.

Fleming took an early lead in the third minute when Jenna Wetherill was one-on-one with Lords keeper Jenna King (Ajax, Ont.) and put the ball into the bottom left corner.

The Lords kept pushing for an equalizer including a couple chances for Vanessa Juras (Ajax, Ont.) but both attempts were unable to bring Durham level.

The Lords finally equalized in the 41st minute after a goal-mouth scramble saw Lapointe tap home from close range.

Durham outshot the Knights 10-2 and led in corners 3-1 heading into the break, but the sides went into halftime leveled at one.

Fleming nearly took the lead in 57th minute when Wetherill rounded King, but second-year standout Milinda Roblero (Pickering, Ont.) made an incredible defensive play blocking the ball with her body.

Following the huge stop on the defensive end, Durham took a 2-1 lead in the 62nd minute when Lapointe scored her second of the game after her shot went under Fleming goalkeeper Michelle Kylie and into the bottom left corner.

After a lengthy delay due to a power outage, the game resumed and within minutes the Lords made it 3-1. Lapointe got her hat-trick in the 68th minute marking her sixth of the young season. With the goal she sits second in OCAA women's soccer scoring.

The Lords' dominant performance continued as they got a fourth with 10 minutes left when Juras made a nice run down the left wing and crossed the ball to Morgan Blaind (Oshawa, Ont.) who got her first of the season.

Durham outshot Fleming 18-6 on their way to the 4-1 win and now have seven points on the season. The Lords next host the Seneca Sting on Thursday, Sept. 20 at 6 p.m.
  Overall Record: 4-4-1 (W-L-D)
Conference Record: 3-1-1

Next match: Thursday, Sept. 20 vs. Seneca Sting (6 p.m. – Vaso's Field)
