Lords take sole possession of second place with a win over Centennial

SCARBOROUGH, Ont. – The Durham College women's basketball team picked up a wire-to-wire 70-49 win over the Centennial Colts Wednesday night in Scarborough.
 
Durham's defence was the difference maker holding Centennial to their second lowest point total of the season and snapping the Colts' three-game win-streak in the process.
 
The Lords move into sole possession of second place as they improve to 6-2 in OCAA conference play. Centennial entered the game tied with Durham but falls to third place sporting a 5-4 record.
 
Durham led 7-0 to start the game and 15-9 after one quarter. Continuing to put pressure on the Colts' offensive attack, the Lords extended their lead to 35-21 at the break. After leading 52-38 after three quarters, Durham saved their best quarter for last outscoring Centennial 28-11 in the final ten minutes to pick up the 21-point victory.
 
Durham's offence has been red hot this season averaging 73 points per game.
 
Lords leading scorer Lindsay Panchan (Ajax, Ont.) scored a team-high 18 points, but was held to just four in the first half. Kayla Marshall (Ottawa, Ont.) and Katiesha Brissett (Pickering, Ont.) had 14 and 13 points respectively.
 
Durham guard Maddie Dender (Ajax, Ont.) had a strong game defensively and also managed to score 10 points in the win. She hit two big three-pointers in the first quarter helping Durham get off to their strong start.
 
The win closes out conference play for the Lords in the 2016 portion of their schedule. They will head to Genesee, N.Y. for their annual Western New York holiday tournament that runs from Dec. 10-11.
