BADMINTON NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP: DAY 2 RECAP

TORONTO - Olivia Lei (OCAA, Humber College), the reigning CCAA Female Player of the Year, will look to win a third consecutive CCAA National Championship tomorrow, advancing to the final with a 21-5, 21-5 win over Ryo Kuramochi (ACAC Wildcard, NAIT).

Women's Singles

Lei will take on Takeisha Wang (ACAC, Concordia University of Edmonton) who advanced to the final with a 21-6, 21-10 win over Helen Cheung (PACWEST, Vancouver Island University). Lei is looking to become just the second three-time CCAA Champion in Women's Singles, joining RuiLin Huang (PACWEST) who captured four consecutive championships.

Men's Singles

Seneca College's Nicky Aung (OCAA Host) has produced a perfect record so far, advancing to the finals with a 6-0 record. Aung defeated Connor Reinson (ACAC Wildcard, Concordia University of Edmonton) 21-6, 21-13 as he looks to become the second consecutive CCAA Champion in Men's Singles from Seneca College. Meeting Aung will be Graydon Robb (PACWEST, Vancouver Island University) who edged Owen Kurvits (OCAA, Redeemer University) 17-21, 23-21, 21-18 in a rematch from last year's CCAA Semi-Final.

Women's Doubles

It will be an all-Ontario final as Phuthita Nilyok and Chloe Rowe (OCAA, Humber College) will meet Christine Nguyen and Rachel Nham (OCAA Host, Seneca College). The Humber duo advanced to the final with a 21-9, 21-9 win over Caitlyn New and Kaitlyn Wilbee (ACAC Wildcard, NAIT) while the Seneca team punched their ticket with a 21-13, 21-17 victory over Rachel Smillie and Cecilia Wolski (ACAC, Concordia University of Edmonton).

Men's Doubles

A familiar team will once again competing for a CCAA Championship. Defending champions Ryan Chow and Adam Dong (OCAA, Humber College) will look to repeat after defeating James Foster and James Qiu (PACWEST, Vancouver Island University) 21-8, 21-15 in the semi-final. Chow and Dong will face Andy Ko and Imran Wadia (ACAC, NAIT) who advanced with a 21-11, 21-15 win over Azam Mohammad and Raman Kumar (OCAA Host, Seneca College).

Mixed Doubles

The Mixed Doubles Championship will be full of experience as Kai-Li Huang and Nicholas Roque (ACAC, NAIT) square off against Yan Zhou and Vinson Wong (OCAA, Seneca College). Huang captured a CCAA Championship last year and a bronze medal the year prior, both in Women's Doubles while Roque claimed a bronze medal last year in Men's Doubles. Zhou is a three-time CCAA medalist, capturing gold in 2015 (Women's Doubles), Silver last year (Women's Doubles) and bronze in 2014 (Women's Singles). Huang and Roque defeated Rosanna Chan and Jeffrey Ko (ACAC Wildcard, NAIT) 21-9, 21-18 while Zhou and Wong knocked off Melissa Liew and Chris Wan (PACWEST, Vancouver Island University) 21-16, 19-21, 21-14.
