DURHAM 14, GEORGE BROWN 11

OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College men's baseball team defeated George Brown College 14-11 on the strength of a sixth inning rally at Kinsmen Memorial Stadium.

George Brown opened the scoring with a run in the second inning, however, Durham was first to pull away with a five run third inning. Strong pitching carried the Lords through the first three innings as starting pitcher A.J. Clark (Fonthill, Ont.) made his debut with the Lords pitching 3.1 innings with two strikeouts while allowing only one earned run.

In the fourth inning George Brown collected a series of hits and capitalized on several errors by the Lords. This resulted in a seven run fourth inning for the Huskies and a string of pitching changes as Adam White (Cornwall Island, Ont.) and David Fischer (Oshawa, Ont.) appeared in relief.

The turning point in the game occurred in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Lords caught fire at the plate and recorded nine runs. The Lords were led offensively by right fielder Aaron McQuillen (Ajax, Ont.) who collected two hits, two runs and three RBIs. Second baseman Kyle Conquer (Ajax, Ont.) also found success at the plate scoring two runs and four RBIs on two hits.

Fischer was awarded the win while veteran Dale Valade (North Bay, Ont.) earned the save closing the game allowing no earned runs and collecting a strikeout in 2/3 innings pitched.

Head coach Sam Dempster attributed the team's offensive surge to his players taking better approaches at the plate after appearing very tight early in the game.

It was also a homecoming for Durham College alumni, as Kyle MacKinnon and Gary Rose are members of the Huskies coaching staff.

The Lords will next take part in exhibition games against Onondoga Community College and Finger Lakes Community College before returning home to host Humber College on Sept. 17 at Kinsmen Stadium.
