DURHAM BASEBALL GIVING BACK TO THEIR SPORT

DURHAM BASEBALL GIVING BACK TO THEIR SPORT

OSHAWA, Ont. - Baseball is booming in Canada right now.

The Blue Jays are the hottest team in the majors. Minor baseball registrations are up. Canada has fallen back in love with America's pastime.

In 2015, the Durham College baseball team is going to do their part in growing the game internationally having teamed up with Play Global!

Play Global, which was formed in 2012, teaches baseball to coaches and youth in developing countries and areas of conflict. They use baseball as a way to help kids see past their differences, respect others and play as a team.

"It is really important for our guys to give back," said Durham College head coach Sam Dempster. "With all of the challenges kids face in Uganda (poverty, malnutrition, malaria and AIDS), they still want to play baseball. The sport has given so much to our players growing up so we are excited to be able to give back."

At the Durham College home opener on Sunday, Sept. 13, Durham will also be holding a fundraiser in support of the charity. Fans can win a number of prizes throughout the day including tickets to the Toronto Blue Jays sold out season finale.

The Lords, in conjunction with Baseball Oshawa, will be collecting equipment at all home games this season to send overseas for the less fortunate.

Durham will also be wearing special T-shirts during warm ups, that they will donate following the season.
