DURHAM'S HARKNESS THROWS NO-HITTER IN LONDON

LONDON, Ont. - Senior Brodie Harkness of Bowmanville fired seven no-hit innings as Durham College defeated the defending national champion Fanshawe Falcons 3-0 in London on Sunday afternoon.

Durham also managed to beat Fanshawe 5-2 in Game 2 of its doubleheader, sweeping the season series against the Falcons. Durham is 7-5 in conference play and tied with Fanshawe (7-7) for third place while having two games in hand.

Harkness was untouchable on the mound as he recorded eight strike outs while only allowing two base runners on errors. Harkness has shown in the past that he can dominate OCAA hitters as he recorded 13 strikeouts against Seneca one year ago.

Durham's offence provided Harkness with enough support scoring single runs in the first, third and fifth innings. Ryan Bothwell (Napanee) was the lone Lord with a multi-hit game as he hit 2-for-3. Logan Stewart (Lindsay) was 1-for-2 with a pair of RBI.

In Game 2, Durham relied on strong pitching performances by Logan Stewart and Jake Storry (Port Perry), who recorded a win and save respectively. Logan saw six innings of work and allowed two runs (one earned) off of five hits and two walks while striking out five. Storry allowed one hit in his relief appearance.

Stewart helped his own cause on offence as he was 2-for-4 with a RBI while Alec Brown (Bowmanville) was 2-for-3 with a run scored.

After six games on the road Durham finally returns home on Wednesday, Oct. 4 against the Seneca Sting. Game time for the doubleheader is 6 and 8 p.m.
