FANSHAWE 11, GEORGE BROWN 1

LONDON, Ont. – The defending national champion Fanshawe Falcons men's baseball team (4-0) defeated the George Brown Huskies (0-4) in both games of their doubleheader on Sunday afternoon by scores of 11-1 and 13-9.

In the first game of the doubleheader, Faris Adamou (Mississauga) drew a walk with the bases loaded in the second inning to start off the Falcons scoring. Back-to-back two-run singles by Tyler Wood (Niagara Falls) and Zev Weisdorf (London) gave Fanshawe a commanding 5-0 lead. With the Huskies threatening in the third, Falcons catcher Hayden Regnier (Komoka) picked off a steal attempt to second to keep the visiting team scoreless.

In the fourth inning, Zach Desa (London) hit a double to score two and Travis Helps (Mooretown) added a run for the home team on a wild pitch. George Brown got on the board to make the score 10-1 going into the fifth inning. Fanshawe finished the game on another run off of a wild pitch to make the final score 11-1. In his Fanshawe College debut, London native Kale Bilger (1-0) had seven strikeouts.

In Game 2, George Brown started off the scoring with two runs in the first inning. The Falcons responded with outfielder Kevin Bowden (London) hitting a two-run single to tie the score. The top of the second inning saw the Huskies add three more runs to retake the lead. Fanshawe's Cam Cook (Oakville) started the Falcons off with a walk, followed by a base hit by Reid Carty (Hamilton). Double steals by Cook and Carty then put Fanshawe in scoring position. A single by Adamou and a sacrifice fly by Weisdorf scored Cook and Carty. The Falcons continued to score with RBIs from Carlos Arteaga (London) and Bryan Hames (Waterdown) to put the home team up 8-5 after two innings.

In the bottom of fifth inning, Fanshawe added three more runs to extend their lead to 11-6. Fanshawe started off the sixth with two walks before Arteaga's hit which scored Adamou. Bowden then added an RBI single for the Falcons. George Brown scored three runs in the final inning, making the final score 13-9. The winning pitcher for Fanshawe was Brantford native, James Reibling (1-0).

Fanshawe returns to action on Saturday, Sept.16, when they travel to Durham to face the Lords (1-1).
