OSHAWA, Ont. - The St. Clair College men's baseball team blanked host Durham College 6-0 in the first round of the OCAA Provincial Championship tournament Friday afternoon at Oshawa's Kinsmen Memorial Stadium.
Saints starting pitcher and Player of the Game Award winner Miguel Cienfuegos (Laval, QC) went 6 strong innings surrendering just 1 hit while striking out 8 batters with 4 walks. Brendan Renaud (Amherstburg, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) had a single and a double while driving in a run to lead the Saints offensively. St. Clair staked themselves to a 4-0 lead after the 1st inning but added a run in the 3rd and 6thinnings to account for all the scoring. Garik Godard (Belle River, ON/Belle River District) had the big blow in the 1st inning hitting the right field wall for a double that scored 2 runs.
St. Clair moves on to play top seed Humber College (Etobicoke) at 6:30pm with a chance to get to the gold medal round undefeated.
