DURHAM 6, FANSHAWE 4

LONDON, Ont. - The Fanshawe women's softball team (0-2) hosted the Durham Lords (2-0) on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons fell by scores of 3-2 and 6-4.

Durham, the reigning OCAA champions, struck first in Game 1, going up 2-0. In the fifth inning, Fanshawe's Samantha Fuller (Ingersoll) would come around to score on an RBI single by Jacey Lochert (Bellwood). The Lords added a run in the top of the sixth inning to extend their lead. In the bottom of the sixth, Fanshawe responded by loading the bases and scoring one on a walked in run. Unfortunately, the Lords were able to hold the Falcons in the final inning to end the game 3-2.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Lords came out strong and went up 3-0. Falcon pitcher Andrea Webster (Wilsonville) had a great catch to end the top of the fourth inning. In the bottom of the fourth, Ali Bergman (Embro) hit a single to score Emily Davis (London). Durham scored next in the sixth inning to go up 4-1. Fanshawe responded with a Shianne Martin (Wyoming) two-run single, followed by an RBI by Bergman to tie the score at four. Unfortunately, the Lords closed out the final inning with two runs of their own to win the game 6-4.

The Falcons will look to grab their first win on Tuesday, Sept. 12 when they will host the St. Clair Saints (2-0). The game times will be at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Stronach Park.

LONDON, Ont. - The defending OCAA champion Durham College women's softball team got their season off to a great start in London on Saturday with a two-game sweep over the Fanshawe Falcons.

Ashley Black (Waterloo) went the distance in the Game 1 victory, working alongside Durham's stingy defence that kept Fanshawe's hitters at bay.

Sabrina Stalteri (Vaughan) got Durham on the board early by using her speed. After a single, Stalteri stole second and third that set her up to score on a passed ball. The Lords would trade runs with Fanshawe in the fifth and sixth innings, while shutting down the Falcons in the bottom of the seventh.

Cassidy Scott (Brampton), Melissa McKnight (Brampton), Caleigh Coels (Duncan, B.C.), Black and Emily Hill (Ohsweken) all had a hit in the win.

In Game 2, Emily Hill won her first game as a Lord as she pitched a complete game, allowing six hits while striking out two.

McKnight, Jaimie Clarke (Elmvale) and Hill had hot bats each getting two hits apiece.

Fanshawe's Ali Bergman had a big hit in the sixth inning that tied the game at 4-4, however when she was trying to stretch it to a triple, she was thrown out by McKnight.

In the top half of the seventh inning, McKnight led things off with a triple and was cashed in by a Stalteri sac fly. Clarke would score later in the inning.

Durham is 2-0 to start the season and will have a doubleheader against the always-tough St. Clair Saints in Windsor on Sunday.
