FANSHAWE 5, ST. CLAIR 2

LONDON, Ont. - The Fanshawe women's softball team (1-3) hosted the St. Clair Saints (5-1) on Tuesday night. The teams split the games with St. Clair taking Game 1, 10-2, and Fanshawe winning the second, 5-2.

In the first game of the doubleheader, St. Clair got off to a strong start, scoring nine runs in the opening three innings. At the bottom of the third inning, Samantha Fuller (Ingersoll) had the Falcons' first single followed by a MacKenzie Kelly (Oil Springs) walk. Jacey Lochert (Bellwood) then got the Falcons on the board with an RBI single to centrefield.

In the top of the fifth, with the Saints threatening to score, Fanshawe's Lochert had a great catch to end the inning. The Falcons added another run when Lochert scored Kim McCaul (Whitby) before the end of the fifth. Unfortunately, the early deficit was too large to overcome and Fanshawe fell to the Saints by a final score of 10-2. The Falcons Shianne Martin (Wyoming) took the loss.

In Game 2, St. Clair started the scoring with two runs in the first inning. Fanshawe's Lochert and Ali Bergman (Embro) responded by collecting back-to-back RBIs to tie the game 2-2 after three innings.

In the fourth, Falcons veteran Amber Preszcator (Hensall) hit a triple to centrefield, and would score on a single by McCaul to give the home team their first lead. Fuller followed that with a single to score McCaul to make the score 4-2.

A leadoff inside-the-park home run from Lochert extended Fanshawe's lead to 5-2. Preszcator had two outstanding catches in the seventh inning to give St. Clair two quick outs. Lochert then got a groundout to end the contest and give Fanshawe their first win of the young season. Lochert (1-0) went the distance to notch the complete game victory for Fanshawe. St. Clair's Olivia Elliott suffered the loss as the Falcons handed the Saints their first defeat of the season.

Fanshawe will now head on the road for the first time this season. They will face the Humber Hawks (2-0) on Saturday, Sept. 16 and the Seneca Sting (0-2) on Sunday, Sept. 17.
