ST. CLAIR 25, MOHAWK 4

HAMILTON, Ont. - When Mohawk set the St. Clair Saints down in order in the top of the first inning they likely didn't expect what followed.

After the Mountaineers took a 1-0 lead in their first at bat, the Saints turned on the power and scored a pair of lopsided victories at Mohawk Sports Park in Hamilton on Saturday, Sept. 16. The scores were 12-3 and 25-4.

St. Clair improved its record to 7-1 while Mohawk fell to 2-4.

In Game 1, five runs in each of the third and fourth innings were what polished off the Mountaineers. A two-run fifth for the home team prevented them being 'mercied', and they finished their seven innings. In the nightcap that was not the case, as they lasted only five frames.

In the opener, Jenna Pierce drove in three runs for the visitors. Allison Telfer had a two-run double, and Michaela Rilett had an RBI single and a sacrifice fly. Madisyn Clark collected an RBI single and a two bagger while Hayley Pearce drove in another one. St. Clair also scored on a couple of errors and even on a double steal. Mackenzie Phillpot had a pair of RBI singles for Mohawk, and Aimee Leduc got an RBI groundout. Leduc was the losing pitcher. Olivia Elliott picked up the win.

In Game 2, Rilett scored four runs, Sarah Bondy homered and Pearce had a bases-loaded triple to pace the Saints. Mohawk had RBIs from Steph Godden, Emma Nordoff and Rae Atkins. Pierce picked up the win and Leduc was staged with the defeat.

Mohawk head coach Todd Bannister said St. Clair has an outstanding team and they showed the they are the class of the league.

The Mountaineers have another tough opponent Tuesday, Sept. 19. The Durham Lords are 4-2.
