DURHAM 6, MOHAWK 5

OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham Lords scored two seventh inning walkoff wins to beat the Mohawk Mountaineers in a pair of 6-5 decisions, in OCAA women's softball in Oshawa on Tuesday, Sept. 19.

In Game 1, Mohawk's Courtney Cole went 2-for-4, scoring once and driving in a run. Alessia Bolzon's first at bat with the Mountaineers after an injury delivered a standup triple, scoring a run. Shelby Hayward went 2-for-4, scoring twice, with her second hit putting Mohawk ahead by a run in the top of the seventh - a lead they could not hold. Aimee Leduc went the distance in a hard luck losing cause.

In the nightcap, Mohawk trailed Durham 3-1 going to the top of the sixth inning, when they scored four times for a 5-3 lead. The big inning started with a standup triple by Shanien O'Neill. That was followed by singles for Sarah Bell and Meagan Byers and a three-run homer by Hayward.

Andie Bomberry pitched the first five innings for the Mountaineers. Leduc came on for the last two innings and absorbed the loss.

Durham improved to 6-2, while Mohawk dropped to 2-6.

The Mountaineers are off to Fanshawe's Stronach Park for two games Friday, Sept. 22.
