CONESTOGA 2, ST. CLAIR 0

TECUMSEH, Ont. - The St. Clair College women's softball team (10-4) were 9-1 winners over Conestoga College (6-6) but could not keep the momentum going in the next game and lost 2-0 on another hot afternoon at the campus diamond Sunday.

The Lady Saints quickly scored in the first inning of the opening game but were tied 1-1 by the visitors from Kitchener in the third inning. St. Clair had a big bottom half with five runs to put the game out of reach and added three more runs in the fifth inning for good measure.

Saints starter Sara Stiller (Windsor/Holy Names) went the distance for her fifth win of the season spreading out seven hits and four walks and only gave up one earned run. She was able to strike out four Conestoga batters for her second win in consecutive days for St. Clair. Sarah Bondy (Amherstburg/General Amherst) had three hits including a double with three RBIs but got help from Alexandra Senft (Windsor/Walkerville) and Jenna Pierce (London) who each had a pair of hits.

In Game 2, Olivia Elliott (Oakville) went unrewarded and took the loss on the mound for St. Clair after throwing a complete game five-hitter and surrendering just two earned runs with five walks with a pair of strikeouts. Conestoga scratched a run in the second inning and tacked on an insurance run in the seventh inning to complete the scoring. The Saints had a good opportunity in the sixth inning with two runners aboard and one out but could not get the key hit. Bondy had two more hits in the second game for the Saints who only managed six total for the game.

The Saints host four games next weekend at the campus diamond with doubleheaders on Saturday against Mohawk College (Hamilton) and Sunday against Humber College (Etobicoke).
