SENECA 6, ST. CLAIR 5

TECUMSEH, Ont. - The St. Clair College women's softball team (9-3) lost 6-5 but recovered for a 5-0 win against Seneca College (2-8) on a blistering hot afternoon at the campus diamond Saturday.

In the opening game the visitors from Seneca opened the game with a run before St. Clair took a 3-1 lead into the second inning. But Seneca answered with three more runs in the top of the second but the Saints tied it 4-4 with a run of their own.

Seneca seized the lead for good in the fourth inning with two more runs. The Saints could only muster a single run in the fifth inning down the stretch but had several chances stranding five runners in the final three frames.

Olivia Elliott (Oakville) took the loss on the mound for St. Clair exiting the game after four innings surrendering eight hits, five earned runs and a walk but struck out six batters.  Jenna Pierce (London) pitched well in relief for the Saints giving up no runs in three innings with just two hits and two walks to go with a strikeout. Madisyn Clark (Leamington), Michaela Rilett (Windsor/Kennedy), Allison Telfer (Windsor/FJ Brennan) and Nicole Giacchini (Windsor/Assumption) each had two hits for St. Clair. Telfer added three RBIs in the loss.

St. Clair was more composed in the second game getting a remarkable pitching performance from starter Sara Stiller (Windsor/Holy Names) who gave up only one hit in a complete game shutout adding six strikeouts with a pair of walks. The Saints scored single runs in the first, second and fourth innings along with a pair in the third inning. Rookie centerfielder Madisyn Clark continued to swing a hot bat with three singles to go with a run scored and a stolen base. Sarah Bondy (Amherstburg/General Amherst) and Alexandra Senft (Windsor/Walkerville) each had a pair of hits in the 10-hit attack for St. Clair.

The Saints host a doubleheader at the campus diamond on Sunday against Conestoga College (Kitchener) with game times of 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
