DURHAM 9, ST. CLAIR 0

BRAMPTON, Ont. - The St. Clair College women's softball team were 3-2 at the OCAA provincial championship hosted by Humber College at Fairgrounds Park in Brampton, Ont., and settled for the silver medal.

The Saints defeated Mohawk College (Hamilton) on Friday in their opening game by a score of 10-0 in a mercy shortened contest. Sara Stiller (Windsor/Holy Names) pitched five strong innings for the win striking out four batters and only surrendered four hits. Jordan Taylor (LaSalle/St. Thomas of Villanova) went 3-for-3 reaching base each time with a double adding two RBIs.

St. Clair then met Durham College (Oshawa) Friday night and lost 11-0 with Olivia Elliott (Oakville) taking the defeat on the mound in short work. Taylor had another two hits in the game. This forced the Saints into the long road back and met Mohawk again Saturday morning in the bronze medal game which is also the alternate route to the gold medal round.  St. Clair posted a 9-4 win over Mohawk and eliminated it from contention. Stiller worked five innings on the bump for the win and struck out eight batters putting St. Clair back in a rematch with Durham Saturday afternoon. Taylor and Megan Lumley (Windsor/Holy Names) each had three hits in the game for the Saints.

The Saints scored a run in the first inning and clung to that lead until the sixth inning where Durham went ahead 2-1. But in heroic fashion, St. Clair put two baserunners aboard in the top of the seventh inning for Lumley who deposited a shot over the fence to take back a 4-2 lead into the bottom half. St. Clair held Durham down in the seventh for the win and forced the teams into the 'if necessary' game in the double knockout format.

However, St. Clair ran out of gas in the final game succumbing 9-0 and forced them to accept the silver medal for its efforts. This marks the second year in a row the Lady Saints have been bridesmaids at the OCAA championship.
