OCAA ANNOUNCES 2018-19 LEAGUE SCHEDULES

TORONTO - The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) has finalized its league schedules for the upcoming 2018-19 varsity regular seasons.

Competition begins shortly after Labour Day for most of the fall league sports.

The three-time defending OCAA champion Algonquin Thunder kick off the women's soccer season when they visit their East Division rival Durham Lords in Oshawa on Sept. 8. Algonquin is looking to become the first women's soccer program to win four straight provincial titles.

The season officially kicks off a day earlier with two matches hosted by the George Brown Huskies and Loyalist Lancers.

The men's soccer season will begin where it will end in 2018, as the George Brown Huskies host the Sheridan Bruins at Esther Shiner Stadium in Toronto on Sept. 7. The Huskies will host the provincial championship in the same venue in late October.

The Durham Lords ended a 20-year OCAA championship drought last season, as they begin their title defence on Sept. 8 at home against the Algonquin Thunder.

The OCAA women's softball schedule commences on Sept. 8 with doubleheaders at three separate diamonds. The Durham Lords, winners of three straight and 18 overall provincial titles, look to become the first team to win four straight titles when they host the Conestoga Condors.

The following day, a 2017 and 2018 gold medal rematch will take place as the St. Clair Saints make their only trip to Durham this season.

There has only been one champion in the five-year history of OCAA men's baseball. The reigning gold medalist St. Clair Saints will be one of the teams tasked with throwing out the first pitch on Sept. 8 as they look to keep their unblemished championship streak alive.

All teams will be in action on opening day with doubleheaders on three diamonds. A rematch of last year's gold medal game will take place the following day, as the Humber Hawks visit the St. Clair Saints.
