OCAA ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

TORONTO - The following student-athletes have been recognized by the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) for their accomplishments during the seven-day period ending Sunday, Nov. 11.

Andrew Brown
School: St. Lawrence
Program: Engineering Technology
Year of Eligibility: 2
Sport: Cross Country
Hometown: Carrying Place, Ont.
Brown was the top OCAA male runner at Saturday's 2018 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Cross-Country Running National Championships. Despite blizzard like conditions at the start of the men's eight kilometre race at Seneca College King Campus, Brown finished in a time of 28:10, nine seconds shy of the podium. He placed eighth at nationals in 2017. The two-time OCAA medalist and All-Ontario First-Team member, winning the silver medal at last October's provincials, was recognized as an All-Canadian for the second straight season.

Janelle Hanna
School: Fanshawe
Program: Medical Radiation Technology
Year of Eligibility: 4
Sport: Cross Country
Hometown: Peterborough, Ont.
Hanna, a two-time provincial women's individual gold medalist and All-Ontario First-Team member, was the top OCAA female runner at Saturday's 2018 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Cross-Country Running National Championships at Seneca College King Campus. Hanna finished in sixth place in a six kilometre time of 24:06, helping lead the Fanshawe Falcons to their first national women's team championship since 2010. Hanna is now a two-time All-Canadian, also placing sixth at nationals last year. She was also the top OCAA runner in that race.

Jaineil Hoilett
School: Humber
Program: Business Management
Year of Eligibility: 4
Sport: Men's Soccer
Hometown: Brampton, Ont.
Hoilett was simply outstanding on the offensive and defensive side of the pitch at last week's 2018 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Men's Soccer National Championship in P.E.I. Hoilett was named Championship MVP and Championship All-Star, leading Humber to a seventh national championship in nine seasons. Hoilett is now a three-time Championship All-Star at nationals, receiving the honour in 2015 and 2016. Hoilett, a former All-Canadian and 2018 OCAA All-Star, was named Championship MVP at the OCAA Men's Soccer Championship last month.

Te-Anna Stephenson
School: St. Clair
Program: Pre-Health Science
Year of Eligibility: 2
Sport: Women's Volleyball
Hometown: Whitby, Ont.
Stephenson was the top player in St. Clair's straight sets win over Humber on Saturday with 17 kills, two service aces and one stuff block totalling 20 points, an average of 6.7 per set. Stephenson also added 10 digs. She is currently leads all OCAA student-athletes averaging 5.2 points per set. With the exception of last year's triumph in the OCAA bronze medal match, this was St. Clair's most significant victory in over two decades as the Saints ended 11-time reigning champion Humber's 155 match win streak in OCAA regular and post-season play.

Matt Taylor
School: Algonquin
Program: Sport Business Management
Year of Eligibility: 2
Sport: Men's Rugby
Hometown: Lunenburg, N.S.
Algonquin defeated St. Lawrence 29-12 last Saturday at Twin Elm Rugby Park in Richmond to win the OCAA bronze medal. Taylor played major role in the outcome, finishing with a pair of tries which matched his total output during the 2018 regular season. Taylor was also named Man of the Match and an OCAA East Division All-Star. Algonquin, which last reached the OCAA podium back in 2015, capped off an outstanding turnaround season following a 2-4 regular season record in 2017. The Thunder lost just two matches in 2018, including post-season.

Kaitlyn Shuvera
School: Humber
Program: Architectural Technology
Year of Eligibility: 3
Sport: Cross Country
Hometown: Prince George, B.C.
Shuvera, the reigning OCAA silver medalist, ran to a Top 10 finish at the 2018 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Cross-Country Running National Championships at Seneca College King Campus last Saturday, finishing ninth overall in a six kilometre time of 24:28. It was her best finish in three straight trips to nationals. Shuvera is now a two-time All-Canadian, also earning the award in 2016, just missing out on another last year. Provincially, Shuvera is a two-time OCAA silver medalist, and three-time All-Ontario First-Team member.
