OCAA ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

TORONTO - The following student-athletes have been recognized by the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) for their accomplishments during the seven-day period ending Sunday, Jan. 26.

Harouna Diop
School: La Cite
Program: Administration des affaires
Year of Eligibility: 3
Sport: Men's Basketball
Hometown: Montreal, Que.
Diop had a big game on Jan. 26 against Centennial. The third-year small forward recorded a double-double with a game-high 31 and 14 rebounds in a 103-68 victory. Diop shot 3-of-7 (47.1 per cent) beyond the three-point arc, and was 12-of-14 (85.7 per cent) from the charity stripe. He also contributed two steals and an assist. La Cite (7-6) has won three straight to begin the 2020 portion of the regular season, having already surpassed its record of 4-16 from a season ago. The Coyotes take a Toronto swing to Seneca (12-2) and George Brown (13-1) this weekend.

Zerious Loney
School: Algonquin
Program: Academic Upgrading
Year of Eligibility: 2
Sport: Men's Basketball
Hometown: Truro, N.S.
Loney has had a positive impact since returning to the Thunder this year and Jan. 25 was no different. The second-year forward shot 10-of-12 (83.3 per cent) from the field including one made three, and was 7-of-8 at the charity stripe totalling 28 points in Algonquin's 80-75 upset victory over Centennial, ending a seven-game losing skid. He also totalled four boards, two assists and two steals. Loney leads his teammates in scoring and is sixth among OCAA players averaging 21.3 points per game, and is second in field goal percentage shooting 66.0.

Jaylan Morgan
School: Humber
Program: Technology
Year of Eligibility: 5
Sport: Men's Basketball
Hometown: Brampton, Ont.
Morgan had a monster week for Humber, helping the Hawks extend their winning streak to 11 games with victories over Mohawk on Jan. 22 and Fanshawe on Jan. 25. In the two games, the fifth-year forward recorded a team-best 64 points on 25-of-35 (71.4 per cent) shooting from the floor. In Humber's 114-100 win over Mohawk, Morgan dropped a career-high 40 points, joining Dino Tengalia (1977-80) and George McNeil (1984-88) as the only Humber players to score 40-plus in a game. Humber (11-4) is currently a half-game out of first place in the West Division.

Chelsea Ramsay
School: Seneca
Program: Business Administration
Year of Eligibility: 4
Sport: Women's Basketball
Hometown: Richmond Hill, Ont.
Ramsay recorded a pair of double-doubles in two contests against Loyalist on Jan. 24 and St. Lawrence on Jan. 25. The fourth-year guard scored 11 points, grabbed 10 rebounds while adding two assists and four steals to open the week before exploding with a 27-point, 15-rebound, and three-steal effort in the second leg of their road trip. It was her season best total for points and rebounds. Ramsay made an incredible 17 free throws against St. Lawrence and now sits in second in the OCAA in free throws made. She is second on the Sting averaging 12.7 points per game.

Ravneet Rana
School: St. Clair
Program: Nursing
Year of Eligibility: 3
Sport: Women's Indoor Soccer
Hometown: Windsor, Ont.
Rana led St. Clair to the Royal Cup championship on Jan. 25 at Redeemer. Rana's leadership and defence were critical to St. Clair's success. The Saints had three wins and a tie in round robin play, defeating Centennial 4-1, Laurier Brantford 6-1, Conestoga 1-0 and a 0-0 draw versus Sheridan to finish first in their pool. St. Clair then defeated Redeemer 1-0 in the gold medal match. Rana was instrumental as the Saints only allowed two goals in five matches. Ten teams took part in the competition. St. Clair returns to Redeemer on Mar. 3 for OCAA regionals.

Mikhaila Wright
School: Fanshawe
Program: Tourism and Travel Studies
Year of Eligibility: 5
Sport: Women's Basketball
Hometown: London, Ont.
Wright had a milestone night in Fanshawe's 101-98 overtime victory over Humber on Jan. 25. The fifth-year guard hit 1,000 career OCAA league points in the win, the first-ever in Fanshawe women's basketball history. She scored 31 points on 11-of-22 shooting and added 11 rebounds, four assists and two steals for a double double. Wright is currently fourth in the OCAA with 117 total rebounds. The victory put the Falcons in a dead heat with Humber atop the West Division standings, both with records of 12-1, and both defeating the other once.
