OCAA ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

TORONTO - The following student-athletes have been recognized by the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) for their accomplishments during the seven-day period ending Sunday, Mar. 1.

Janelle Albert
School: Fanshawe
Program: Business Marketing
Year of Eligibility: 3
Sport: Women's Volleyball
Hometown: Brampton, Ont.
Albert is still the Queen of the Court. After being named OCAA Player of the Year for the second straight season, she also doubled up on her OCAA Championship MVP accolades as well. Albert averaged 27 kills and 30 points in three matches to lead Fanshawe to back-to-back provincial titles. The third-year outside hitter perhaps saved her best performance for last, totalling 30 kills and 32 points with a hitting percentage of .549 in a four-set victory over Humber in the gold medal match. Albert and the Falcons now look to improve on last year's national bronze medal.

Jake Gomes
School: Humber
Program: Recreation & Leisure Services
Year of Eligibility: 3
Sport: Men's Volleyball
Hometown: Oakville, Ont.
Gomes had a heck of a week. After being named the OCAA Player of the Year, the third-year setter continued his strong play at provincials, as he was named OCAA Championship MVP. Gomes averaged 30 assists in three matches at the championship, as Humber won all nine sets to claim its first OCAA gold medal in eight years. He also chipped in 14 points on six service aces (all in one match against host Fleming on Feb. 27), four kills and four blocks. Gomes and his teammates now travel to Fredericton, N.B. from Mar. 11-14 in quest of a national championship.

Liam Gray
School: Durham
Program: Sport Management
Year of Eligibility: 5
Sport: Men's Volleyball
Hometown: Barrie, Ont.
The three-time All-Canadian led Durham to a quarter-final win over Redeemer at provincials, being named Player of the Match after recording 22 assists, nine digs and seven points in three quick sets. The Lords then scored a 3-1 semifinal victory over Fanshawe, with Gray registering 43 assists, 16 digs and four points. The win secured a berth to the national championship for Durham. In a three-set gold medal loss to Humber, Gray added another 31 assists, eight digs, and four points to his totals, being named an OCAA Championship All-Star for his efforts.

Samuel Odzenma
School: Georgian
Program: Police Studies
Year of Eligibility: 2
Sport: Men's Basketball
Hometown: Mississauga, Ont.
Odzenma had his best game of the season in Georgian's playoff win over Mohawk on Feb. 29. The second-year forward scored a season-high 31 points along with 11 rebounds in an 88-78 victory. He was especially effective beyond the three-point arch, shooting 4-of-6 for a dozen of his points. Odzenma had no more than 18 points in a game during the regular season, averaging 13.6 per contest. Georgian rebounded from a sub-.500 season a year ago to finish 12-8 in the East Division, and are now off to provincials with a quarter-final rematch against Humber on Thursday.

Breanna Pretty
School: Lambton
Program: Child & Youth Care
Year of Eligibility: 1
Sport: Women's Basketball
Hometown: Sarnia, Ont.
All season long, Pretty has played like anything but a first-year student-athlete. In Lambton's first-ever home playoff game, Pretty recorded 25 points and 12 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the campaign, including the regular season. She added four assists and six steals to help the Lions pick up a 96-67 win over Centennial on Feb. 29, advancing to the 2020 OCAA Women's Basketball Championship as a result. Pretty and her teammates will now make the trek south to St. Clair for a quarter-final meeting against Algonquin on Thursday.

Shiann Williams
School: Humber
Program: Architectural Technology
Year of Eligibility: 3
Sport: Women's Volleyball
Hometown: Toronto, Ont.
Williams and her Humber teammates left the 2020 OCAA Women's Volleyball Championship with the silver medal as the Hawks returned to the provincial podium following a one-year absence. The third-year middle played a major role in Humber's semi-final upset over previously-undefeated Durham, finishing with a team-high 12 points, including 10 kills on a .667 swing percentage. Williams finished the championship with a team-high six blocks along with 36 points in three matches. Williams was named a Championship All-Star for her efforts.
