Student-athletes are nominated by their respective athletic departments.
Shana Lessard
School: Boréal
Program: Techniques en administration des affaires - Business
Year of Eligibility: 1
Sport: Volleyball
Hometown: Chelmsford, Ont.
Lessard had an impactful weekend at home for the Boreal Vipères playing against the Redeemer Royals on Nov. 29. Lessard was impressive on the defensive side keeping rallies going, totalling six digs as a right side. Lessard really shined in a match against the Mohawk Mountaineers on Nov. 30. Lessard totalled six kills against Mohawk, providing a fighting spirit to the Vipères with a strong offensive dominance. Lessard's defensive and offensive performance gave the Vipères a fighting chance in both matches on the weekend.
Tesloch Luk
School: Algonquin
Program: Community & Justice Services
Year of Eligibility: 2
Sport: Basketball
Hometown: Ottawa, Ont.
Luk put on an impressive performance for the Algonquin Wolves to close out the first semester. Against La Cité on Nov. 29, the second-year guard got off to a hot start scoring 14 points in the opening quarter. Luk finished with 26 points and 11 boards while shooting an efficient 9-of-15 from the floor and 3-of-6 from the three-point arc in a 97-74 victory. Entering the December recess, Luk is the OCAA scoring leader averaging 22.4 points per game. The Wolves are 7-3, already surpassing their win total of four games last season.
Tanner Paterson
School: Fanshawe
Program: Commerce (Digital Marketing)
Year of Eligibility: 4
Sport: Volleyball
Hometown: Baden, Ont.
Paterson played a pivotal role in securing two victories for the Fanshawe Falcons this past week, keeping their perfect home record of 5-0 intact. On Nov. 27 against the Niagara Knights, Paterson set a new Fanshawe single-game record with 10 aces, amassing a match-high 25 points including 14 kills. Paterson followed up with another stellar performance on Nov. 30 against the Sheridan Bruins, recording 19 points including a dozen kills and six aces. Fanshawe won both matches, winning each in four sets, improving to 8-3 overall.
Breanna Pretty
School: Lambton
Program: Business Administration
Year of Eligibility: 5
Sport: Basketball
Hometown: Sarnia, Ont.
Pretty's 2023-24 OCAA Player of the Year form was on full display on the final weekend of the opening half. Pretty put up back-to-back double-doubles, averaging 24.5 points and 10 rebounds per game while shooting 50.0 per cent from the field (18-of-36). Against the Sheridan Bruins on Nov. 30, The fifth-year wing set a new career-high with 33 points on 13-of-21 shooting to go along with 10 rebounds in a 66-57 win. Pretty followed that up the following day with a 16-point, 10-rebound outing against the Humber Hawks in a 84-64 defeat.
Yaroslav Svidritskiy
School: George Brown
Program: Game Programming
Year of Eligibility: 2
Sport: Volleyball
Hometown: Vaughan, Ont.
The second-year left-side hitter delivered an incredible 41 points over two matches last week, tallying 34 kills, four service aces, and three blocks while adding six digs. Svidritskiy was extremely efficient, recording a .393 hitting percentage. Svidritskiy's standout performance came in a four-set victory over the Loyalist Lancers on Nov. 30, posting a match-high 25 points on 21 kills, two service aces and two blocks. Svidritskiy has recorded over 20 points in a match four times this season and leads all OCAA players averaging 4.9 per set.
Kia Watt
School: Humber
Program: Criminal Justice
Year of Eligibility: 5
Sport: Basketball
Hometown: Toronto, Ont.
The Humber Hawks finished the first half on an eight-game winning streak defeating the St. Clair Saints and Lambton Lions this past weekend, and once again Watt was a standout. Leading the top-scoring team in the West Division, Watt finished the weekend with 42 points shooting 14-of-29 (48.3 per cent) from the field and 7-of-13 (53.8 per cent) beyond the three-point arc, and now leads the division in scoring, averaging 19.0 points per game. The Hawks enter the December break 8-1 tied for top spot in the West Division with Niagara.
