HUMBER 102, ST. CLAIR 88

WINDSOR, Ont. - The St. Clair College men's basketball team started their OCAA West Division regular season with a 102-88 loss to Humber College (Etobicoke) Sunday afternoon at the SportsPlex.

Humber took control in the opening quarter with a 27-16 advantage but the Saints bounced back in the second quarter closing to within six points and only trailed 45-39 at the halftime break. Humber opened up their biggest lead of the game at 64-43 in the third quarter using a 16-2 run. St. Clair charged back with its own run but were still behind 73-64 entering the fourth quarter. That was as close as the game would get down the stretch.

St. Clair scored more points from the free throw line (18-16) and off the bench (31-27) but Humber held the advantage in the key areas of rebounding (41-31), points off turnovers (33-15) and points from beyond the arc (33-18).

Gil Atencio (Panama City, Panama) led the Saints with 20 points and added 10 rebounds for the double-double. He also had two blocks and two steals making an impression on the big front line from the visitors. Jermaine Lynch (Windsor/JL Forster) had 14 points and 10 assists for the distributing double-double for St. Clair adding three steals. William Lara-Caston (Windsor/JL Forster) chipped in with 12 points off the bench for the Saints.

Humber's CJ Bennett (Brampton) scored a game-high 30 points in the win.
