SHERIDAN 119, ST. CLAIR 108

BRAMPTON, Ont. - The St. Clair College men's basketball team fell short with a 119-108 loss at Sheridan College in Brampton, Ont., on Saturday night to begin their OCAA West Division regular season schedule.

The up-tempo game started quickly as Sheridan led 34-22 after the first quarter but St. Clair played the second frame even (24-24) and were down only 58-46 at the intermission.  The Saints continued to hang around but could not gain ground trailing 94-78 heading into the fourth quarter.  St. Clair mounted a decent comeback in the period trailing only 114-108 with under a minute to play.  But that is as close as they would come as Sheridan salted it away at the free throw line.

Transfer players David Gomez Jr. (Pontiac, MI) and Jalen Sykes (Redford, MI) both scored 31 points apiece for St. Clair in the high scoring affair.  Ian Smart (Chatham, ON) had a double-double scoring 14 points to go with 11 rebounds while Nik Veigli (Cottam, ON/Essex District) chipped also chipped in with 10 points for the Saints.

The St. Clair men's basketball team continue their regular season schedule Saturday in their home opener against Redeemer University College (Ancaster) with tip time at 4:00pm.
