NICK CAMPBELL NAMED OCAA MALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

TORONTO - The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) proudly recognizes Sheridan College men's basketball student-athlete Nick Campbell (Brampton, Ont.) as its 2019-20 OCAA Male Athlete of the Year.

The reigning OCAA Men's Basketball Player of the Year, the fifth-year player was the West Division Scoring Champion during a regular season in which he averaged 24.6 points per game over 20 contests. Campbell scored an OCAA and career-best 491 points and was seventh in steals with 41. He was limited to under 20 points in only four regular season games, while scoring 30 or more points six times, including a career-best 41 against Redeemer on Feb. 1.

Campbell also contributed 124 total rebounds and 48 assists. Sheridan advanced to the post-season with a record of 13-7. Also named West Division Player of the Year, Campbell headlined the West Division First-Team All-Stars.

Campbell was also recognized nationally as the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men's Basketball Player of the Year as well as All-Canadian honours.

In two playoff games, Campbell averaged 22.5 points while shooting 54.8 percent, including 4-of-7 from three-point range. Sheridan advanced to the OCAA championship at Lambton, but fell short of its ultimate goal, losing in the quarter-finals to division rival Redeemer.

Over his five seasons of men's basketball in the OCAA, Campbell is a three-time West Division First-Team All-Star. He was named the OCAA Championship MVP when Sheridan won the provincial gold medal in 2018-19 along with CCAA Second-Team Championship All-Star honours. Campbell is a two-time CCAA silver medalist, three-time OCAA medalist, and two-time provincial champion.

Campbell's 1,592 career regular season points ranks in the Top 10 in OCAA history. Campbell played four seasons with the Sheridan Bruins after debuting with the St. Clair Saints.

"It has been my honour to coach Nick and watch him develop into the man that he has become," praised Sheridan Athletic Director and Head Coach Jim Flack. "His work ethic and quiet leadership are everything we want to see in double-blue. There's no question that he goes down as an 'All-Time Bruin.'"

Campbell is just the second student-athlete from Sheridan to be named OCAA Male Athlete of the Year, joining fellow basketball standout Shane Bascoe who won the award in 1999-2000. Campbell becomes the eighth different men's basketball athlete in the history of the award dating back to 1997.

The OCAA announced Fanshawe's Chuot Angou as its 2019-20 OCAA Female Athlete of the Year on Wednesday.
