The Algonquin Thunder Men’s Soccer Team made history on
the weekend as they won their third consecutive OCAA Championship
title and tied Seneca and Mohawk for the most OCAA consecutive
titles. The Thunder defeated the Humber Hawks in a convincing 5-1
gold medal game to take the title. The win hands Algonquin their
seventh overall provincial title in OCAA men’s soccer.
Algonquin will now advance to the CCAA National Championships from
November 7-11 in Vancouver, BC as Langara College hosts the
event.
The Thunder finished second at last year National Championship and
look good to improve on the silver medal this year.
The top ranked Thunder team entered the Championship as the early
favorite and top ranked team in Ontario and number two ranked team
in the country. Algonquin didn’t disappoint as they cruised
though the Championships winning their semi-final game 7-0 over
Algonquin and defeating the Humber Hawks 5-1 in the Gold Medal
Final.
Algonquin enters the nationals with a 10-0-1 record with an
impressive 71 goals for and only three goals scored against. In the
post season the Thunder went on a scoring tare netting 18 goals and
allowing only one in.
The loss hands the Humber Hawks second place while George Brown
defeated Sheridan 3-2 in the Bronze Medal Game.
