With a 1-0 victory over the Fanshawe Falcons, the Algonquin
Thunder men’s soccer team have found themselves back in a
familiar position, the gold medal game of the Belairdirect Ontario
Colleges Athletic Association Men’s Soccer Championship.
Fighting blustering winds and rain, the Thunder managed to
capitalize on their best opening half advantage when
midfielder/forward Paul Waigango Kihara bent a sharp angled shot
from the right side of the Falcons goal with pinpoint accuracy to
give the defending champions all the advantage they would need to
advance.
Despite the weather, the Fanshawe Falcons played a solid game and
will now play for the bronze medal which will take place Saturday
at 12:00pm. They will have to wait to see who they will play
between the battle of the GTA school as Humber faced Seneca in the
final semi-final of the day.
The Algonquin Thunder continue their assault on the OCAA soccer and
have now pushed their gold medal appearance to nine consecutive
years with their victory today.
Algonquin will take to the field on Satuday at 6:00pm in an attempt
to find their way back to the CCAA National Championship.
