FANSHAWE 1, NIAGARA 0

LONDON, Ont. - The Fanshawe soccer teams both opened their seasons with wins over the Niagara Knights on Saturday afternoon. The women's soccer team won 2-1 and the men by a score of 1-0.

The Falcons women's soccer team went up 2-0 in the first half with goals from Katie Rowe (Mount Brydges) in the 38th minute and Alyssa Blair (Belmont) in stoppage time. Niagara scored in the second half to make the score 2-1, however could not complete the comeback. Shots on goal were 9-1 in favour of Fanshawe.

The Fanshawe men's soccer team scored early in the match, when Daniel Amaya Romero (London) beat the Knights goalkeeper in the 18th minute. The Falcons also showed their defensive strength in their 1-0 win, only allowing two shots on goal for Niagara. Fanshawe had nine shots on goal and 17 total shots compared to the Knight's six for the game.

Fanshawe returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 13 when both teams travel to Ancaster to battle Redeemer. The women play at 6 p.m. and the men play at 8 p.m.
