NIAGARA 4, ST. CLAIR 2

WINDSOR, Ont. - The St. Clair College varsity soccer teams continued their OCAA regular season schedules as they faced the Niagara College Knights from Welland on Sunday afternoon at the Main Campus Field.

 

The St. Clair men got off to a tough start against a veteran Knights squad as Niagara jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead with goals inthe second and seventh minutes. The Knights went up 3-0 in the 45th minute after a tough first half for the Saints. Niagara had nine shots on goal compared to three for St. Clair but keeper Shane Beaton (Windsor) made some nice saves to keep the game within reach.

The Knights went up 4-0 in the 52nd minute. However, St. Clair did not quit as they got on the scoreboard in the 85th minute on a goal by Stefan Zastavnikovic (Windsor). The Saints got another one back in the 90th minute on a nice effort by Matt Montaleone (Windsor). St. Clair had a chance to make it 4-3 in injury time on a penalty but were stopped by the Knights keeper. The Saints had a better second half with six shots on goal compared to four for the Knights.

With the loss the Saints record fell to 2-1 on the season and sit in second place in the OCAA West Division. The St. Clair men resume their home schedule on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 4 p.m. when they host the Mohawk Mountaineers at the Main Campus Field.
