ST. CLAIR 2, NIAGARA 2

WELLAND, Ont. - The  St. Clair College men's soccer team regular season record moved to to 5-2-2 on the season with a 2-2 draw against the Niagara College Knights on Saturday afternoon in Welland, Ont.

The Saints got off to a terrible start in this match going down 2-0 early with goals in the seventh and 12th minute by the Knights. However, St. Clair hung tough and made it 2-1 on a goal by Max Iannetta (LaSalle) in the 23rd minute.

The Saints got the equalizer before the end of the half on a breakaway goal by Martin Nyul (Hungary) in the 41st minute. The first half was evenly played with both teams having eight shot attempts.

Niagara pushed hard in the second half which included the Saints playing down a man in for the final 15 minutes. The yellow cards in this match were uneven with St. Clair earning seven while Niagara had only one. The Knights had eight shot attempts compared to two for the Saints in the second half.

Keeper Shane Beaton (Windsor) was solid in net making a couple big saves in the second half to keep the score tied. Heading into the match, Niagara was ranked third in Ontario and 12th in Canada.
 
With the draw St. Clair is now tied for second place with Niagara in the OCAA West Division with one regular season game remaining. The Saints can still take over second place alone with a win in their final match and a Niagara loss or tie.

The Saints will take on the first place Fanshawe Falcons on Wednesday afternoon in London. Fanshawe is ranked second in Ontario and in fifth in Canada. The Saints tied the Falcons 2-2 on Oct. 7. Either way, the St. Clair men are guaranteed a home playoff game on Sunday, Oct. 22 at the Main Campus Field.
