SENECA SELECTS GHEISAR TO LEAD MEN'S SOCCER

TORONTO - The Seneca Sting is pleased to announce the hiring of Patrice Gheisar as the new men's soccer head coach.

The current technical director for high performance at Vaughan Soccer Club brings 12 years of coaching experience at both the collegiate and club levels.

John Sharpe, Seneca Manager of Athletics and Recreation feels that Gheisar's experience coaching and working with elite players at the U18 level and his previous experience as a strong recruiter in the intercollegiate system made him a perfect fit for the Sting.

"Patrice checked off all the boxes that we were looking for in a coach. He has coached at a high-level and has shown that he is a great recruiter in the post-secondary environment. We look forward to seeing Patrice put together a team that will compete for championships in the OCAA."

For Gheisar, it was Seneca's lofty goals that made this an exciting opportunity for him.

"Obviously Seneca's winning tradition stands out, but Seneca's reputation of its academic and changing landscape drew me the position. I have great memories from my time as a student-athlete at Seneca."

A detail-oriented coach, Gheisar takes on the role with a plan ready to implement. With indoor soccer starting up in January, Gheisar is ready to start putting his vision into action.

"I want us to play a high-tempo and technical game. We plan to play the ball on the ground and be competitive. We won't be afraid to play."

A Canadian National B-Part 1 certified coach, Gheisar will look to create an environment which will lead to not only successful teams, but also creating better people.

"I believe in setting a culture which combines hard work, playing attractive football and creating a family environment where every player works for the team. I want highly committed, competitive individuals with soccer IQ. We want players who are open-minded and constantly looking for feedback in order to improve."

Expectations are high for Gheisar, who looks to return the Sting to national prominence. The Sting most recently competed at the CCAA Championship in 2012 and won their fourth CCAA championship in 2009.

Tryouts for the men's indoor soccer team will begin on Thursday, Jan. 10 at 5:45 p.m. in the StingDome. The Sting will compete in the regional championship on Mar. 5, 2019 at Seneca College. The OCAA Championship will be hosted Mar. 21-22, 2019 by Humber College at the Ontario Soccer Centre.
