FANSHAWE MEN'S VOLLEYBALL TAKES NATIONAL SILVER FOR BEST FINISH EVER

CCAA Gold Medal Match: Titans de Limoilou 3, Fanshawe Falcons 1

After three straight CCAA silver medals the Titans de Limoilou broke through for their first national gold medal since 2010 after a four-set victory over the Fanshawe Falcons; 18-25, 25-22, 25-22 and 25-19.

Limoilou is now an 11-time champion in CCAA Men's Volleyball.

Offensively they tallied 51 kills led by the player of the match Etienne Belzille and his match high 14 kills and three aces. Nicolas Fortin chipped in with 10 kills and 14 digs and Jonathan Girard had eight kills. Setter Ludovic Martin was outstanding quarterbacking the offence and recorded 18 digs.

The Falcons lose their first match of the season but win the CCAA silver medal. Cole Jordan led their offence with 15 kills, two blocks and six digs. Zach Albert launched nine kills as did Sam Otten.  

The player of the match was Sebasitan Lethbridge who tallied 30 assists along with seven digs and three kills.

CCAA Semi-Final: Fanshawe Falcons 3, Géants de Saint-Jean 1 

The Fanshawe Falcons remain undefeated after an impressive four set win over the Cegep Saint-Jean Geants 25-16, 27-29, 25-18 and 25-23 and have punched their ticket to the CCAA gold medal match.

Offensively, the OCAA champion Falcons had a balanced attack with an incredible 61 kills spread among seven players. Zach Albert collected a match-high 16 kills along with six digs, two blocks and a pair of aces. The player of the match was Sam Otten who recorded eight aces, 14 kills and a dig. The OCAA Player of the Year Cole Jordan was outstanding as well with 11 kills.

On the other side of the net the Geants were stopped offensively tallying 37 kills. Mathieu Lassonde was named the player of the match with a team high nine kills, eight digs and a block. Vincent Couturier was solid as well with eight kills and nine digs while Simon Bilodeau had a match high 12 digs.

The Falcons will play in their first-ever CCAA gold medal match on Saturday at 8 p.m. (11 p.m. ET) and will face the Camosun Chargers or the Titans de Limoilou.  The Geants will now fight for bronze in a semi-final on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. against the ACAC Wildcard Keyano Huskies.

CCAA Quarter-Final: Fanshawe Falcons 3, VIU Mariners 2

The OCAA champion Fanshawe Falcons played in their first five-set match of the season and remain undefeated following a thrilling 15-10 victory over the VIU Mariners of the PACWEST.

The Falcons used a balanced attack led by the player of the match Cole Jordan who tallied 12 kills. Sam Otten and his brother Will proved to be an effective 1-2 punch at the net each collecting 11 kills.

Setter Sebastian Lethbridge was outstanding getting to loose balls and quarterbacking the Falcons' offence keeping the Mariners defence off balance.

After winning the first set 26-24 the Mariners dropped the next two 25-16 and 25-19. However, they battled back in the fourth set winning 25-23 behind some timely hitting offensively. Their attack was led by player of the match Denham O'Reilly who had a match high 19 kills and All-Canadian Braydon Brouwer's 10.

The Falcons move onto the semifinal and face the Cegep Saint-Jean Sur-Richelieu Geants on Friday at 6 p.m. (9 p.m. ET).

The Mariners will head to the bronze medal side and match up with the ACAC champion SAIT Trojans on Friday at 1 p.m.
