MOHAWK 70, REDEEMER 61

ANCASTER, Ont. - Redeemer University College is known for big, noisy crowds when the Royals play Mountain rival Mohawk and it was just like usual as the two teams battled in Ancaster, Ont., on Friday. In fact there was an overflow crowd and the majority of them went home unhappy after the Mountaineers won both games in OCAA play.

The men's contest was incredibly intense and physical, with Mohawk winning 88-76, but spending the night trying to shake off Redeemer, which wouldn't go away.

Andrew Cicuttini of the Mountaineers was the game's top scorer with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Matt Fennell had one of his lower scoring games with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Patrick Iavarone had 14 points and Taylor Dowhaniuk notched 13 points and 11 rebounds. Matt Savel also had 13 points and seven assists.

For the Royals, Calvin Turnbull scored 17 points and added 12 rebounds. John Woldue also scored 17 and had 10 assists. Nathan Di Loreto notched 15 points.

A statistic which stood out in this one came on the boards. Mohawk out-rebounded Redeemer 53-31.

With the victory, the Mountaineers upped their record to 13-2, while the Royals slipped to 9-5.

The Mohawk women made it a sweep for the visitors beating Redeemer 70-61. It was their 14th straight win.

Jen Jen Abella led the way for the Mountaineers with 18 points. Stef Hrymak tossed in 12 points and Jakayla Douse was working the boards with 14 rebounds to go with nine points.

Redeemer's Jesseca Brown was far and away the top gun in the game with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Lindsay Moffatt had nine points and Rebekah Couperus scored seven.

Mohawk doubled Redeemer in rebounds, 56-28.

The Mountaineer women improved to 14-1. The Royals fell to 3-11.
