NOFUENTE NAMED CCAA WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR

SACKVILLE, N.B. - Ceejay Nofuente of the Humber Hawks has been named the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Women's Basketball Player of the Year for the third straight season.

Nofuente is the first ever three-time recipient of the CCAA award.

She was honoured this evening at the 2018 CCAA Women's Basketball National Championship banquet, hosted by Mount Allison University in Sackville, NB.

"Ceejay is a special player who has led Humber to an incredible 81-game winning streak in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA)," said Mai-Anh Nguyen, CCAA Women's Basketball Convenor. "She led the country in assists and it's her ability to create points for her teammates that makes her an all-around player."

This season, the Hawks finished atop the OCAA West Division standings with a 20-0 record. Nofuente once again broke her own OCAA single-season record for steals (149) and assists (140).

The fifth-year point guard recorded 11 double-doubles and her third career quadruple-double. Nofuente averaged 17.4 points per game and 8.4 rebounds per game. Her efficiency was through the roof, finishing with a career-best 50.2 per cent (124-of-247) shooting from the floor.

Nofuente is now also a three-time CCAA All-Canadian and OCAA Player of the Year.

Throughout the course of the season, Humber plays host to multiple camps, high school and club events for all ages and the first student-athlete to donate her time, give back and make a meaningful contribution to the community is Nofuente.

The Hawks star, who represented Canada at the FISU Summer Universiade last summer in Taiwan, will once again be on the national team, suiting up for the country at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia.

"Ceejay is a fantastic ambassador for the CCAA," said David Munro, CCAA VP Sport Development. "She is an inspiration to many young athletes because of her work ethic, dedication and determination."

CCAA Player of the Year winners receive a customized ring provided by Jostens Canada, the Official Ring Supplier of the CCAA Championship Awards Banquet.

Other nominees for the CCAA Player of the Year award were Rachel Beauchamp of the Douglas Royals (PACWEST), Kennedy Werre of the Medicine Hat Rattlers (ACAC), Roxane Makolo of the Dawson Blues (RSEQ) and Kiersten Mangold of the Mount Allison Mounties (ACAA).
