NIAGARA 82, ST. CLAIR 62

WELLAND, Ont. - The St. Clair College women's basketball team is now 1-2 on the season after splitting a pair of OCAA West Division league games on the road this weekend. St. Clair defeated Redeemer University College in Ancaster, Ont., on Saturday night by a score of 91-63 but fell 82-62 to Niagara College in Welland, Ont., on Sunday afternoon.

In Saturday's win, St. Clair fifth-year swing player Shannon Kennedy (Windsor/St. Joseph's) had an outstanding game scoring 27 points and added 12 rebounds for the double-double. Kennedy just missed a triple-double with an enormous eight blocks to go with two steals. Rookie guard Logan Kucera (Chatham) also reached double figures scoring 14 points for the Saints. The Lady Saints held a 43-31 at halftime but were consistent down the stretch shooting 48 per cent from the field in the contest.

On Sunday, the Saints were sluggish out of the gate falling behind 22-10 after the opening frame. St. Clair turned it around in the second quarter and only trailed 34-26 by halftime.  However, Niagara put up 27 points in the third quarter and the Saints had to play catch up the remainder of the game. Kucera had another good performance scoring 20 points for St. Clair to go with seven rebounds. Third-year Saints forward Rylee Welsh (LaSalle/St. Thomas of Villanova) scored 15 points adding 10 rebounds for the double-double. St. Clair could only manage to hit one triple in the game as opposed to 11 makes by the home team.
