MOHAWK 78, ST. CLAIR 73

WINDSOR, Ont. - The St. Clair College women's basketball team was tough early and late but were narrowly edged by Mohawk College (Hamilton) Saturday night at the SportsPlex falling 78-73 in their first league action of 2018.

The Lady Saints took a commanding 28-18 after the first quarter but the offence went dry over the next two quarters. Down 42-35 at halftime St. Clair was anemic in the third quarter and entered the fourth quarter down 64-40.

But the Saints were gamers and pulled to within four points (74-70) late only to see the comeback fall short. The Lady Saints were good from beyond the arc making 10 in the game but gave up 26 points on 17 turnovers and were outscored 40-9 in points off the bench.

Rookie point guard Anna Ulicny (Tecumseh/St. Anne) led the Saints in scoring with 16 points and was one of five starters to reach double figures. Shannon Kennedy (Windsor/St. Joseph's) scored 13 points with Marissa Mara (Sarnia) and Jana Kucera (Chatham) both putting up 12 points. Logan Kucera (Chatham) chipped in with 11 points.

Mohawk's Sam Pocrnic (Oakville) led her team to a win with a game-high 19 points.
