BRAMPTON, Ont. - The Sheridan College Athletics and Recreation department announced today the hiring of Sean Douglas as the new head coach of women's basketball.
"We're very excited to have Sean on board in this capacity," Sheridan varsity basketball coordinator Tahir Khan said. "He is a Bruin through and through and has first-hand knowledge of what it means to be a Sheridan student-athlete. He has proven himself to be a strong recruiter, tactician, and game-manager in his coaching career thus far. We firmly believe in the vision he has presented for the future of this program."
"It's a bit surreal to think I've been given this opportunity exactly 10 years after winning an Ontario championship and graduating from this institution," Douglas added. "Although I'm grateful for the opportunity, it is bittersweet knowing that I won't be working alongside coach Willie Delas anymore. He is a legend in the Toronto Basketball community and I'm appreciative of the time I spent learning from the example he has set."

Douglas, who has spent the past two seasons as an assistant on the women's basketball staff, began his coaching career in 2009 as an assistant coach for the Fletcher's Meadow Secondary School boys team and for Robert J. Lee Public School as the head coach of the boys and girls teams.
Under his leadership, Robert J. Lee has won senior girls (2017, Division IV) and senior boys (2017, Division III) championships.
In 2011, he was part of the staff at Fletcher's Meadow that won the Sheridan Cup tournament, advanced to the ROPSSAA championship game, and qualified for OFSAA, becoming the first Peel public school team to accomplish the feat in eight years.
He became head coach of the Fletcher's Meadow senior girls team in 2012 and took over head coaching duties for the boys team in 2013.
Prior to that, he spent five years (2003-2008) as a member of the Sheridan men's basketball team while completing Correctional Worker and Law and Security Administration diplomas.
He was a key contributor to the 2007-08 team that won the Ontario Championship, as well as the 2005-06 team that was a finalist both nationally and provincially.
In total, he played in three OCAA championship games, two CCAA medal games, and won three OCAA regular season Division championships.
After the conclusion of 2005-06 and 2007-08 seasons, he received the men's basketball Coaches Award at the Sheridan Annual Athletic Banquet.
Douglas will take over a team that qualified for the post-season after a two-year absence and he says that will be the starting point for growing his program.
"Moving forward the goal remains the same," he said. "We want to develop high-calibre student-athletes and to continue building on the success of last season on and off the court."
