ST. LAWRENCE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL IN SEARCH OF NEW HEAD COACH

KINGSTON, Ont. - St. Lawrence College's (SLC) varsity women's basketball program is on the lookout for a new head coach for the upcoming 2019-20 season with the departure of Remy Simpson this spring.

"I have decided to step down as head coach to focus on my family, well-being and other passions. The eight years spent as head coach have been very memorable and hold a special place in my heart," said Simpson, former head coach of the SLC women's basketball program.

In eight seasons as head coach of the team, Remy compiled a respectable 87-66 record and received provincial and national accolades, winning the Ontario Colleges Athletics Association (OCAA) Coach of the Year award three times (2013, 2015, 2017) and the Canadian Collegiate Athletics Association (CCAA) Coach of the Year in 2015.

"Remy has been our women's basketball coach for as long as I have been with the College," said Kevin Biggs, Manager of Athletics and Student Engagement at SLC. "I have watched him grow the program to new heights the team has never experienced, including multiple OCAA championship appearances, including three fourth place finishes within the OCAA."

Simpson's experience with St. Lawrence College extends beyond his coaching years, as he was a member of the varsity men's basketball team from 2004 to 2006 and 2008 to 2010 where we won various awards, including Top Defensive Player of the Year and the Team Leadership Award.

"I wish all the returning players and recruits all the best in the upcoming season," said Simpson. "I would like to thank Brad Greenwood for giving me the opportunity eight years ago and the rest of the SLC staff for the continued support."

Remy's support of SLC women's basketball on and off the court was instrumental to the success of the program. He led many volunteer initiatives, charity events, and team fundraising exercises to increase the team's profile within the community and college.

"We have been so fortunate to have him with us. He will be very difficult to replace. I wish him the very best in his future," said Biggs.
