LOYALIST TO HOST OCAA WOMEN'S RUGBY SEVENS CHAMPIONSHIP

LOYALIST TO HOST OCAA WOMEN'S RUGBY SEVENS CHAMPIONSHIP

TORONTO - Loyalist College (Belleville) has been named host of the 2019 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Women's Rugby Sevens Championship following approval of the OCAA Senior Leadership Council earlier this month.

Loyalist was one of the driving forces behind bringing women's rugby to the OCAA nearly a decade ago. The Lancers have advanced to the OCAA Women's Rugby Sevens provincials the past two seasons, winning the bronze medal in 2017. This is the first time Loyalist will host the OCAA championship in women's rugby.

The six-team tournament takes place Nov. 2 at the newly renovated Upper Pitch on Loyalist's main campus in Belleville.

Hosts of the other OCAA championships were named last month. There is no pre-determined host of Men's Rugby, with the higher seeded team awarded home field advantage throughout its post-season.
