BRANCH HEADLINES OCAA WOMEN'S RUGBY SEVENS AWARDS

TRENTON, Ont. - Humber College's Christina Branch (Oshawa, Ont.) is the 2019 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Women's Rugby Sevens Player of the Year. She received the award in a ceremony held in Trenton, Ont., on Friday evening.

The fifth-year back tallied 163 points on 19 tries and 34 converts in 14 regular season matches, helping lead Humber to a West Division crown. Branch is also the co-West Division Player of the Year and an OCAA All-Star.

Leah Pedis (Cobourg, Ont.) of Algonquin is the East Division Player of the Year. The third-year back scored 10 tries and added a pair of converts for 54 points in a dozen matches. Pedis is also an OCAA All-Star.

Seneca's Mackenzie Fane (Holland Landing, Ont.) is the co-West Division Player of the Year. The fifth-year back scored 13 tries totalling 65 points in 11 matches. Fane is also an OCAA All-Star.

Algonquin's Sydney Seymour (Cornwall, Ont.) is the OCAA Rookie of the Year. She was just one of three players to surpass the century mark in scoring, with 15 tries and 13 converts totalling 101 points. Seymour also earned East Division Rookie of the Year honours.

Brooklyn Feasby (Port Perry, Ont.) of Seneca is the West Division Rookie of the Year. The forward finished the regular season tied for the team lead in tries (16) and points (80) in 14 matches played.

Jeremy Cairnie of Seneca is the OCAA Coach of the Year. After going .500 a season ago, the Sting improved to 11-3 this season, one game back of Humber in the West Division. Seneca was second in the OCAA with 367 total points scored. Cairnie is also a co-West Division Coach of the Year.

St. Lawrence's Kait Pasic is the East Division Coach of the Year. The Vikings secured a berth to the OCAA championship on the final day of the regular season.

Darrell Devine of Conestoga is the co-West Division Coach of the Year. The Condors are returning to the OCAA championship following a one-year absence.

Cheyenne De Luca (Oshawa, Ont.) of Humber is the OCAA League Scoring Champion. The fifth-year wing scored a league-high 31 tries while contributing four converts and a penalty kick, the first in OCAA women's rugby sevens history. De Luca is also an OCAA All-Star.

Each team nominates two OCAA All-Stars. This year's OCAA All-Stars include Algonquin's Jodie McKirdy (Ottawa, Ont.) and Pedis; Conestoga's Emma Scott (Waterford) and Katelyn Vongunten (Bradford, Ont.); East Division champion Durham's Danielle Belanger (Courtice, Ont.) and Kaylah Moehling (Port Colborne, Ont.); Fleming's Harlynn Beauchamp-Phillips (Cavan, Ont.) and Erin Gawley-Doling (Peterborough, Ont.); Humber's Branch and De Luca; Loyalist's Hanna Fitzgerald (Trenton, Ont.) and Eva Keyzers (Belleville, Ont.); St. Lawrence's Brooke Bean (Kinburn, Ont.) and Sierra Dunford (Port Hope, Ont.); Seneca's Fane and Zoey Siciliano (Toronto, Ont.); and Sheridan's Kirsten Archer (Orillia, Ont.) and Tuyet Vu-Noreau (Oakville, Ont.).
