TORONTO - The following have been named Ontario Colleges
Athletic Association (OCAA) volleyball student-athletes of the week
for the period ending Sunday, Jan. 29.
MALE: Keith Marier, La Cite
La Cite second-year power Keith Marier (Ottawa)
broke the OCAA single season record for offensive points and kills
in a 3-1 (25-19, 25-18, 20-25, 25-21) loss at Durham on Saturday.
Marier earned 20 kills and added a stuff block for 21 points to
lift his regular season totals to 277 kills and 305 points,
surpassing the OCAA record of 304 points set by Seneca's
Kanitha Boranprasit in 2000-01, and 257 kills set
by Seneca's Jason Hernandez in 2010-11.
FEMALE: Kimberly Cedros, Seneca
First-year player Kimberly Cedros (Toronto) lifted
her Seneca squad to a pair of weekend victories. Cedros earned 15
kills and added two service aces for 17 points in a 3-1 (25-21,
22-25, 25-17, 25-20) win over second-place Trent on Jan. 27. She
followed this up with a 15-point effort on 10 kills and five aces
in a 3-1 (18-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-17) win over George Brown on Jan.
28. Seneca (8-7) leaped-frogged George Brown into sixth place in
the OCAA East region. The top six teams advance to the
playoffs.
