DURHAM FINISHES THIRD AT 30TH ANNUAL ADIDAS CUP

OSHAWA, Ont. - The host Durham Lords finished third at the 2018 Adidas Cup after defeating Cambrian Golden Shield 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-22) on Sunday morning.

The Lords had previously defeated the Golden Shield during round robin play on Day 1, but barely earned the victory - earning a 15-13 fifth set win to open the three-day tournament.

Durham went 4-1 at the tournament, but fell 3-1 in the semifinals to the Mohawk Mountaineers on Saturday night.

In the championship match, the Fanshawe Falcons swept their west region rival Mohawk 3-0 (25-19, 27-25, 27-25). In their only conference meeting this season the Falcons had also swept the match.

This marks the first time Fanshawe has been in the Adidas Cup final since 2008. In that three-set final the same Mohawk Mountaineers came out on top 2-0.

Durham will now turn their focus to conference play as they prepare for the George Brown Huskies on January 17. The Lords won 3-0 over George Brown in their first meeting in Oshawa.

Their first home game will be January 23 against the Georgian Grizzlies. First serve for both matches is 6 p.m.
