ST. CLAIR WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY WINS SENECA MEET

KING CITY, Ont. - The St. Clair College cross country team travelled to Seneca College in King City, Ont., this past weekend to compete in their third meet of the season. The Saints women's team ran to a gold medal after a narrow finish that was decided by thousandths of a second.

After initial results posted a second place finish for the St. Clair women's team a review discovered that a computer error would reverse the placing on a lean at the tape of Saints second-year runner Beth Horrobin (Wallaceburg, Ont.) over a competitor from Humber College.  This forced a tie between the two schools for first place which would need to be broken by each school's fifth place finisher. Rookie Saints runner Toria Verbeek (Bracebridge, Ont.) was two seconds ahead of the fifth place finisher from Humber awarding team title to St. Clair. The Lady Saints were led once again by Megan Howell (Harrow, Ont.) who continued her strong season finishing eighth around the five kilometre loop at Seneca's King City campus in a time of 22:45.

The St. Clair women's team finishers included Hannah Cirino (12th place, 23:08), Beth Horrobin (14th place, 23:47), Aryanna Cirino (16th place, 23:56), Toria Verbeek (27th place, 24:47) and Abbey Rice (52nd Place, 26:28) in a field of 96 finishers.

The Saints men's team were eighth out of 16 OCAA teams and led by 19th place finisher Enrique Nepomuceno (Windsor, Ont./Holy Names) in a time of 29:24 around the eight kilometre course in a field of 124 runners. Ryan Bell (49th place, 32:07), Jordan Root (56th place, 32:24), Jason Kerr (60th place, 32:32), Andrew Garant (61st Place, 32:38) and Justin Folkeringa (70th place, 33:21) were the other St. Clair male runners.

This was the last meet for St. Clair in preparation for the OCAA provincial championships being held Oct. 29 and hosted at the same location by Seneca College in King City.
