ST. CLAIR CROSS COUNTRY FINISHES SEASON AT NATIONALS

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. - The St. Clair College cross country women's team along with individual male runner Enrique Nepomuceno (Windsor, Ont./Holy Names) finished their season at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) national championship hosted by Sault College on Saturday in Sault St. Marie, Ont.

The Saints women's team was ranked No. 6 in the most recent national poll and qualified for the CCAA's with a silver medal performance at the OCAA provincial championships two weeks ago.  Nepomuceno qualified as the lone St. Clair male entry after a 15th place finish at the OCAAs.

Nepomuceno turned in his best performance of the season with a 15th place finish in a field of 101 runners in a time of 27:10 over the eight kilometre course which was held at Crimson Ridge Golf Course. This turned out to be the sixth best of all the Ontario runners in the field.

The Lady Saints finished in 12th spot out of 16 team entries and were led by second-year runner Beth Horrobin (Wallaceburg, Ont.) who finished in 33rd place with a time of 20:46 over the five kilometre course. Sisters Hannah Cirino (45th place, 21:07) and Aryana Cirino (66th place, 21:46) followed for St. Clair.

Meghan Howell (Harrow, Ont./Harrow District) who is usually the top runner for the Saints women's team was still recovering from an ankle injury sustained at the provincials. Howell struggled but finished as the fourth best runner for the Saints in 70th position in a time of 21:53.  Other finishers for St. Clair included Toria Verbeek (88th place, 23:05) and Abbey Rice (92nd place, 23:43) in a field of 103 runners.
